CertainTeed Roof Installation in Miami: What to Know First

CertainTeed roof installation in Miami typically costs between $7,800 and $16,500 for a full tear-off and replacement on an average 1,800-square-foot home, depending on which CertainTeed line you choose and what’s happening under the old shingles. Most CertainTeed installations take 2 to 4 working days once we start. The real cost question isn’t brand alone – it’s what Miami’s heat, humidity, and storm cycles have already done to your decking and underlayment before the first bundle of shingles opens.

This page is for Miami homeowners who already know CertainTeed is the roof they want, or who inherited one and need honest guidance on replacement. We’re Mercer Roofing Co Miami, an independent CertainTeed service provider – not a factory store, not a call center. We install CertainTeed roofs across Miami, from Kendall to Coral Gables to North Miami Beach, and we give you a written price before any work starts. How CertainTeed Products Fail – and How We Fix Them

CertainTeed makes good shingles. But every brand has its weak points, and after enough Miami summers we know exactly where CertainTeed roofs give way first. Here’s what we actually see:

  • Landmark series granule loss within the first 8 to 12 years. Miami’s UV index is brutal, and Landmark shingles – CertainTeed’s most popular architectural line in Miami – start shedding granules faster here than in northern climates. You’ll notice dark patches on the roof and granules piling up in gutters. Granule loss exposes the asphalt core to direct sun, which accelerates cracking. Our fix during installation is upgrading to Landmark Pro or Presidential Shake when budget allows, both of which carry higher granule adhesion in high-UV testing.
  • XT30 shingle blow-offs at the gable edges during tropical-storm-force winds. CertainTeed advertises 130-mph wind ratings, but that rating assumes correct nailing. We routinely find XT30 and Landmark shingles nailed too high, too shallow, or with the wrong nail count at the gable end – the first place wind gets underneath in a Miami gust front. When we install, we re-nail the entire perimeter at 6 nails per shingle and hand-seal the gable edges with roofing cement. It’s the difference between a roof that tests well on paper and one that survives the next named storm.
  • DiamondDeck synthetic underlayment bonding failures over old plywood decking. CertainTeed’s synthetic underlayment is a solid product, but in older Miami homes built in the 1950s through the 1970s, the plywood decking has often swelled and contracted so many times in humidity that the underlayment’s self-adhered backing loses contact. We see wrinkled runs and channels where water can get trapped against the deck. Before installing DiamondDeck or RoofRunner, Grant has our crew inspect every sheet of decking; if it’s spongy, we replace the section and re-fasten the rest before the underlayment goes down.
  • Carriage House and Grand Manor impact plates cracking at the interlock points. CertainTeed’s luxury shingle lines look great on Coral Gables and Pinecrest homes, but their interlocking tabs can develop hairline stress cracks after repeated thermal cycling – Miami swings from 50-degree January nights to 95-degree August afternoons, and those cycles are harder on interlocked panels than on standard architectural shingles. On a Carriage House installation, we check each bundle for factory stress marks and reject cracked plates before they ever hit the roof, which is something we learned to do after replacing three Carriage House roofs in Coconut Grove that cracked within the first four years.
  • Flintlastic peel-and-stick underlayment tearing at the eave edges during re-roofs. On Miami flat-roof and low-slope jobs, we use Flintlastic self-adhered cap sheets regularly – it’s one of the best CertainTeed products for our climate. But on tear-off re-roofs, crews in a hurry drag old shingles across the eave edge and snag the Flintlastic before it’s fully bonded. That tear becomes a water intrusion point the homeowner never sees until the ceiling stains. Our process: peel-and-stick goes down only after the tear-off is fully cleared, and we walk the eave line before the cap sheet is set.

Our CertainTeed Roof Installation Process

A CertainTeed installation with Mercer Roofing Co Miami starts with a phone call to (850) 753-2996 and ends with a written guarantee in your hand. Here’s how it goes:

  1. 1
Call and estimate. We answer live, 24/7. We schedule your free roof inspection and send you the name and photo of the technician coming to your door before they arrive.
  2. 2
Deck and attic inspection. Grant walks the roof himself on every installation. He checks decking integrity, attic ventilation, soffit condition, and flashing. If the deck has rot, we note every section on your written estimate.
  3. 3
Written price before work starts. You get a line-item estimate that includes underlayment, flashing, ventilation, and disposal. That’s the number on the invoice. No change-order surprises.
  4. 4
Tear-off and deck repair. We strip the old roof, haul the debris, and replace any rotted decking that was identified in the inspection. If we find something unexpected, we show you before we touch it.
  5. 5
CertainTeed installation. Ice and water shield at the eaves, synthetic underlayment over the full deck, new flashing at every penetration, and CertainTeed shingles nailed to spec – not just nailed in.
  6. 6
Final walk-through and guarantee. Grant walks the finished roof with you, shows you the nailing pattern at the gable edges and the flashing work, and you leave with a written 365-Day Done Right Promise. If it’s not right within a year, we make it right, free.

What CertainTeed Roof Installation Costs in Miami

Here are real numbers for common CertainTeed installations in Miami, based on the jobs we price every week:

  • Landmark architectural shingle, 1,800 sq ft tear-off: $7,800 – $10,500
  • Landmark Pro premium architectural, same home: $9,500 – $12,800
  • Presidential Shake or Carriage House luxury line: $13,000 – $16,500+
  • Flat roof or low-slope addition with Flintlastic cap sheet: $5,200 – $9,000

What moves the price in Miami: decking replacement (older homes in Allapattah and Shenandoah often need 30 – 50% of the deck re-sheeted), the number of valleys and roof-to-wall intersections (Coral Gables older builds have a lot of them), and pitch – anything steeper than a 6:12 costs more in labor and safety gear. Call (850) 753-2996 for a free estimate and we’ll give you an exact number, in writing, before you commit to anything.

Why Miami Homeowners Call Mercer Roofing Co Miami for CertainTeed Work

Because we treat the person behind the door as seriously as the shingles above it. Every Mercer technician is background-checked, identity-verified, and uniformed – our Threshold Verified standard. Before they knock, we send you their name and photo. When they arrive, they badge in with a photo ID at the door. You never have to guess who’s on your property.

We’ve been doing roofs in Miami since 2000 as part of the Threshold Group family. Grant Whitlock grew up in Los Angeles and learned the trade at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College before putting roofs on everything from Coral Gables bungalows to flat-top commercial buildings near Brickell. He’s walked enough Miami decks to know where a CertainTeed roof fails first – and how to install it so it doesn’t.

We also install and repair GAF and Owens Corning, so if a CertainTeed product ever goes on backorder or won’t hit the wind rating you need, we can give you an honest alternative instead of making you wait. A roof shouldn’t be something you worry about – that’s our job.
