IKO Shingle Repair: The Miami Owner’s Guide
IKO shingle repair in Miami typically runs $350 to $850 for a standard repair of 10 to 20 shingles, including materials, labor, and a written 365-day guarantee. Our trucks carry IKO Nordic, Cambridge, and Dynasty shingle colors on board, so most repairs get done in one visit without waiting on a parts order. Most Miami homeowners discover an IKO shingle problem the morning after a storm, when granules show up in the gutter or a shingle flap is hanging loose over the driveway, and by then the underlayment has often been taking water for weeks.
What you’re dealing with is usually one of three things: wind-lifted shingles that never sealed back down, nail pops from Miami’s humidity cycles, or brittle shingles that lost too much granule coating to the sun. IKO shingles are built for coastal weather, but no asphalt shingle loves 90-degree heat plus salt air plus afternoon thunderstorms for a decade straight. Grant Whitlock has walked enough Miami roofs after enough August squalls to tell you exactly where IKO shingles fail first, and it’s rarely where the homeowner thinks.
Which IKO Models This Applies To
We repair and replace shingles from IKO’s three main residential lines: Cambridge (their most common architectural shingle in Miami), Dynasty (a heavier laminated shingle with better wind ratings), and Nordic (a premium architectural shingle often used on higher-end homes in Coral Gables and Pinecrest). Each line uses a slightly different granule color set and shingle width, and you can’t always tell them apart from the ground.
The compatibility gotcha: IKO’s Cambridge line uses a unique 13¼-inch-by-39⅜-inch exposure pattern, while Dynasty runs slightly wider. If someone slaps a generic architectural shingle onto a Cambridge roof, the courses won’t line up and water finds the seam. Check the bundle wrapper in your garage or attic, or look for the IKO label printed on the underside of a loose shingle. If you don’t have a bundle, a photo of the roof from ground level is usually enough for us to identify the line before we even climb up.
On OEM versus aftermarket: for IKO specifically, we always recommend matching OEM shingles when the roof is under 12 years old, because IKO’s color lots shift noticeably over time. After 12 to 15 years, the original granules have faded enough that a fresh OEM shingle may actually stand out more than a well-matched aftermarket equivalent. We’ll tell you which way to go based on what we see, and the written price you get before work starts covers whichever option we agree on.
Mercer Roofing Co Miami is an independent roofing contractor and is not affiliated with IKO. We’re trained on their product lines and carry their shingles because they’re a solid fit for Miami’s climate, but the warranty on our repair work comes from us, in writing, for 365 days.

Signs Your IKO Shingle Repair Is Failing
- Granules accumulating in gutters or at downspout outlets. IKO shingles shed granules as the asphalt binder degrades under Miami UV. Once you see a consistent stream of granules after rain, the shingles are past mid-life and the fiberglass mat is starting to expose.
- Shingle corners lifting or flapping in the breeze. Miami’s afternoon wind loads, especially on south-facing roof slopes, break the seal strip on IKO shingles over time. A curled or lifted corner is the first physical sign, and it lets wind-driven rain slide underneath onto the underlayment.
- Dark stains or streaks running down the roof deck. That’s algae, not damage, but on IKO shingles it usually appears first on north-facing slopes that stay damp. It doesn’t directly cause leaks, but the moisture it holds accelerates granule loss and shortening shingle life.
- Nail heads popping up through the shingle surface. Miami’s humidity swells the decking boards, and over years that movement backs nails out. A popped nail leaves a hole and cracks the shingle above it; we see this most often on Miami Beach and Key Biscayne homes where salt air accelerates decking movement.
- Water stains on ceilings or around vent pipes after a heavy rain. By the time the stain shows inside, the failed shingle or flashing has been leaking for a while. The visible shingle damage is usually further up the slope or two courses above where the ceiling stain appears.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
A straightforward IKO shingle repair in Miami runs $350 to $850 for typical work covering up to two roofing squares (200 square feet) or fewer than 20 shingles. Most of what we do lands in the $400 to $600 range. Larger repairs, full slope replacements, or jobs requiring new decking or underlayment run higher, and we give you that number in writing before any work starts.
| Scope of Repair | Typical Miami Installed Price |
|---|---|
| 1-5 shingles, no structural issues | $350 – $450 |
| 6-20 shingles, minor flashing adjustment | $450 – $650 |
| Repair plus section of new underlayment | $650 – $850 |
| Larger slope or decking replacement | Quoted by written estimate |
The price includes haul-away of old material, proper nailing per IKO’s installation specs, and our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the repair fails within a year, we return and fix it free. A second visit is included, not an optional add-on. You get one written price before we begin, and it does not change when the job is done. If our technician finds hidden decking rot after the shingles come off, we stop, show you a photo, and give you a new written price before touching anything else.
DIY or Call Us?
Here’s the honest split. You can safely check a few things yourself: look for granules in the gutters after a rain, photograph a lifted shingle from ground level, and mark any interior stains with painter’s tape to see if they grow. You can even press a lifted shingle corner down on a cool morning and see if it re-seals, though Miami mornings under 75 degrees are rare enough that this rarely works.
Where DIY goes wrong on IKO repairs is the ladder and the nail pattern. Asphalt shingles get slick with morning dew, and Miami’s roof pitches on older homes are steeper than people remember from the ground. IKO’s warranty also requires their nail pattern be followed or the repair won’t hold in the next storm. A roofer who’s walked a thousand Miami roofs knows which courses need hand-sealing and which need a full shingle swap. If you’re not sure, call (850) 753-2996 and we’ll put eyes on it. A roof shouldn’t be something you worry about – that’s our job.
FAQs
IKO Cambridge and Dynasty shingles typically last 18 to 22 years in Miami, but the last 3 to 5 years of that lifespan are usually spent with declining granule coverage and occasional wind-lift repairs. Nordic shingles often do slightly better due to their thicker mat. The salt air and UV exposure on Miami Beach and Key Biscayne homes tends to knock 2 to 4 years off the national average. Call (850) 753-2996 and we’ll tell you honestly how many years your roof has left before recommending repair over replacement.
Yes, you can absolutely repair just a few IKO shingles, and for roofs under 15 years old, a targeted repair is usually the right call. The catch is that the surrounding shingles must have enough life left to accept new nails and seal properly. If the roof is over 18 years old and the granule loss is widespread, we’ll tell you that too, and give you a straight comparison between repeated repairs and a full replacement. Call (850) 753-2996 for an honest assessment, not a sales pitch.
A standard IKO shingle repair takes 1 to 3 hours on site, and we do most of them the same week you call. Larger repairs involving underlayment or decking take a full day, and we’ll tell you the schedule in writing before you approve the work.
Yes, our Miami trucks carry IKO Cambridge, Dynasty, and Nordic shingles in the most common colorways, so for typical repairs we arrive with the material already loaded. For less common colors or older production lots, we source the exact matching bundle within one to two business days. We also carry GAF, Owens Corning, and CertainTeed shingles for mixed-brand repairs, but for IKO roofs we always try to match OEM first.
